Domaine des Côtes Rousses is located near Chambéry and surrounding by the Arclusaz and Bauges mountains (see photo). Most of the vineyard is exposed to the south and benefit from a high altitude climate as well as unique terroir made of mineral rich hard soils. The vines, planted on very steep slopes between 380 and 600m of altitude, forbid all use of mechanical work which in turns has become Nicolas Ferrand’s motto. Indeed he likes to say that «Boots caked with dirt are the mark of a good winemaker ».
Nicolas created the domaine only 4 years ago and adopted organic farming right from the beginning. Convinced of the important role of cicadas, truffles, maple tress, juniper and almond trees bordering the vineyard and tend to them as well. Nicolas works with respect towards nature and his wines reflect that perfectly. With great minerally, rich aromas of fruits and flower and perfectly well balanced acidity, Domaine des Côtes Rousses’ cuvées marks the beginning of the « renouveau » of Savoie’s wine culture.
